Chichester and the surrounding areas are known to be some of the most beautiful towns and villages in West Sussex. The region is not only recognised for its history, art, culture, outdoor pursuits, and laid-back lifestyle, but also for its fantastic educational options, transport links to other major cities and an up-and-coming social scene. Bellow is what we believe to be the top 5 most desirable places to live in West Sussex so if you’re looking to move house then these places are definitely worth considering.

  1. Middleton-on-Sea
As the name suggests, Middleton-on-Sea is a lovely village right on the coast, with beautiful residential streets that lead down to the beach. It has everything you could want from a small self-contained village, including a local pub, independent retailers, as well as a sports and social club.

Although this quiet community often attracts buyers investing in holiday homes, as it is just down the road from the busier town of Bognor Regis does mean families often choose Middleton-on-Sea as their perfect relocation spot.

  1. Midhurst
If you’re wanting to find a home in the location of a national park, with pubs, restaurants and cafes, then Midhurst is the ideal place for you. South Downs National Park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors all year round, during the winter months the landscape often turns into a stunning wintery wonderland. Although it is a small village set in a rural location, the place is full of community spirit with lots of annual festivals and events perfect for the whole family, including lively carnivals and Christmas Street parties. Midhurst is also consistently voted one of the best places to live in West Sussex by the Sunday Times. It is only a 20-minute drive into Chichester and you can access London via train in under an hour from nearby Haslemere. This makes Midhurst very appealing to those still working in the city, particularly if they have children as the local schools are excellent.
  2. Boxgrove
Boxgrove is definitely one of the prettiest villages in West Sussex and known mostly as the location of the 12th century Boxgrove Priory. With only around 1,000 residents, a local shop, village hall and school, the peaceful village is perhaps the perfect location for those seeking out a quieter life.

With this said, being in such close proximity to Chichester, Boxgrove equally attracts people looking for the best of both worlds. There have also been new property developments in recent years, meaning the local area offers a range of both modern and character properties.

  1. Arundel
Arundel is a popular market town in West Sussex best known for its Castle and Cathedral, attractions bringing in thousands of tourists every year. Due to its mix of period properties, highly-regarded schools and well-reviewed restaurants, Arundel has also been voted one of the top towns in England to live in and is described as ‘urban chic’.

Surrounded by nature, the River Arun flows through the town and it rests at the foot of the South Downs National Park. These characteristics are among some of the reasons why Arundel is also considered the most relaxing place in Britain. Residents, however, get to enjoy peaceful living whilst also being in close proximity to Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Chichester – all within a 30 minute drive.

  1. Selsey
Selsey is set in a picturesque seaside location, part of the southernmost tip of Chichester and accommodates a number of attractions for families, particularly water sports lovers. Whilst officially a town, the area has a village feel and very friendly neighbourhood atmosphere, with over 100 community and arts groups that residents can get involved in.

There are schools for all ages, local shops and restaurants, however, Selsey is far from isolated, and is close to other major towns and cities – it’s the perfect choice for people wanting a blend of seaside, county and village life.
